Aims and outcomes
I am currently pursuing the online option for PGCert in TLHE. This blog will collect some of my thoughts and reflections on the experience. I am new to 'designing curriculum' and 'intended learning outcomes' so I will have a lot of thinking to do around these concepts. The curriculum for me is well described as "everything that happens in relation to the educatinal programme" (J.M.Genn, 1995).
The general aims of the module include developing and extending key academic and communication skills that students require to reflectively engage with learning and assessment in the social sciences. At the same time, students will be encouraged to consider their wider development as reflective practitioners through a structured engagement with personal development planning (PDP).
The described learning outcomes on completion of the module that I am involved with at the moment are:
Students will be able to:
L1. Demonstrate a broad understanding of particular social issues
L2. Locate, assess and integrate information and evidence from a range of sources, including academic sources
L3. Demonstrate the ability to engage in reflective practice
L4. Demonstrate the ability to engage with eLearning & eAssessment technologies
I feel that these are quite easily measurable and achievable and that students are being directed in a fashion which will facilitate these learning outcomes as well as providing a solid base for future study skills and ongoing reflection.
