Induction and beyond

Induction for new postgraduate students went well and because I had untertaken it last year I was asked to help by presenting with Marcella Kean and fellow PhD student, Eleanor Yule.   Marcella delivers events for Effective Learning and Eleanor and I  were sharing our experiences of these during the last year and highlighting their importance to new PhD students. We also encouraged new students to participate in Dr Rob Dekkers' PGCert modules- Requirements for PhD which we found to be invaluable. Other post graduate modules in Quantitive Methods and Qualitative Methods were also extremely useful which, when used in conjunction with Innovation and Research Offices organised training events, provide a solid base for postgraduate research students.

Since then, I have delivered my first two workshops 'Becoming a Social Scientist' with undergraduate students at Hamilton. I aim to get my draft chapters completed and will attempt to have my questionnaire prepared, distributed and analysed before we get to the end of the semester.

I am delighted to say that I have recently been invited to participate in the Faculty Learning and Teaching Forum discussions on Global Citizenship and Internationalising the Curriculum and am looking forward to my first meeting this month.
